Branding themes vs product brands
Two different things sharing the word 'brand'. How to think about them.
Two different things in RepairStep are called "brand". They're set up in different places and do different jobs.
Branding theme — what customers see
A theme is how a repair looks to the customer — logo, colours, customer-portal styling, and the Display Name that appears on tracking pages and emails. If you present to customers under more than one brand, set up a theme for each — multiple brands, one business.
Set up themes in Settings → Branding. Each repair is tagged with a theme when it's created, and the customer portal renders that theme. Only the repair owner sets the theme — for forwarded repairs the customer always sees the owner's theme.
Product brand — who made the product
A product brand is the manufacturer of the product being repaired (Apple, Samsung, Dyson, etc.). It's used by:
- Warranty rules — most-specific-match on the brand + category combination.
- Routing — each product brand can have a default supplier (or be flagged as in-house), so picking the brand at intake suggests where the repair should go.
- Manufacturer claims — the claim is sent to the manufacturer configured against the brand.
Set up product brands in Products → Brands.
Why they're separate
A repair's theme (what the customer sees) is independent of the product's brand (what the product is). A store with a single theme can repair products from any manufacturer.
