Warranty rules

How warranty is decided per repair, and why it lives in one place.

In-houseForward-onlyHybrid

Warranty status (in-warranty or out-of-warranty) is decided at intake by a single set of warranty rules. Once set on a repair, the status is locked in and isn't re-evaluated as the repair ages.

How a rule is evaluated

Each rule matches a combination of product brand, category, or both, and sets a warranty period in months. Evaluation is most-specific-wins:

  1. A rule matching both the brand and the category.
  2. A rule matching only the brand.
  3. A rule matching only the category.
  4. A default rule (no brand or category) if you have one.

If nothing matches, the repair falls through to out-of-warranty.

Setting up rules

Go to Products → Warranty. Add rules for the brands and categories that matter most; you don't need one for every combination. Most teams start with one rule per major brand and refine over time.

Only for in-house and hybrid

Forward-only stores don't see the warranty settings — the supplier you forward to handles warranty on their end. If you switch on the in-house capability later, the warranty page appears.

One source

Warranty rules are the only place warranty is configured. Categories don't carry their own warranty period — every warranty answer in the app comes from rule evaluation.
